Here we go again, raving about skin.
If I had to convince anyone to sway in a certain direction (which you should never do unless it is wellness related) it would be in the skin direction. Arrows would be beaming towards your face, hands, legs, butt, SKIN. The arrows would obviously be lighting up too. A full force SHH, SKIN IS EVERYTHING type of convincing.
Skin is always going to be a thing – think about it. It’s like a human barrier to.. uh.. everything. It protects your f’ing organs. If that isn’t enough I don’t know what ever will be. It is going to age poorly if you let it and it’s going to scream in everyones face how much you didn’t care about it when you were young and wild and free. YUP. What goes around comes around, babe. G-damn skin.
The second you are sick? Forget about it. Your skin will let us know. Period? Yes, tell me more. Anxiety? Don’t worry – breakouts live for that. One too many drinks last night? There it goes again, swelling and puffing.
If you follow on snap & insta then you probably know that I just ordered a book called The French Beauty Solution by Mathilde Thomas, the founder of Caudalie – a huge skincare line, because I am over the top about it – for GOOD REASONS. I actually found this book online when I was over in Italy. I could NOT stop looking at the skin on these people. They walked the streets flawlessly with this organic dewy look you would kill for, fanning themselves off like nothing else mattered. GAH, the life.
I kept saying “what is in the air over here?” because I honestly felt like they were blessed with this air that just permanently toned and brightened their skin. Like, the second they walked outside they got radiant skin or something; it just happened magically.
So, of course, I Googled it. To be exact :
HOW DO EUROPEANS GET SUCH GOOD SKIN????
Thank you, Google, for bringing up The French Beauty Solution. Now, I’ve never been to France, but I imagine the air is magic over there as well, right? I just got the book and I’m already chapters deep just anxiously waiting for Trader Joe’s to open up in the morning so I can go get more grape seed oil.
I will elaborate more when I finish – don’t you worry.
Let me explain how I got crazy into skin : I’m a psycho about washing my hands – a germaphobe insane person. I wash them like I’m about to do open heart surgery super dramatically but it’s one of those things I just can’t stop doing, you know? I need to.
The same goes for my face – I would stoop to a level of using hand soap on my face in college if I wasn’t at my own apartment and they had no face wipes (if I only I knew about oils back then). I just have to be clean to get into bed.
So when winter comes, I’m a top-notch crazy person. I wash then moisturize then wash then moisturize because GERM SEASON and DRY SKIN. (Humidifiers are a serious thing, trust me). Ever since I was little my skin would get so dry and I hate nothing more. NOTHING. Dry skin really revs my engines.
That’s how it all went down.
I got obsessed with learning about skin and how to maintain a glow with nothing close to dry hands. I would research skin during college all.the.time to figure out quick ways to protect it from.. everything. It was the germaphobe side of me, what can I say? I started to do face masks more and found killer hand creams that didn’t make my hands too wet but kept them dewy. I learned about sun damage, skin aging, prevention and protection. I would sit on my phone forever just reading articles on how I can always keep a glow with also washing like a psycho.
So of course I am going to share my top notch cold weather skin secrets because it’s g-damn cold over here today, huh?
You can use these all year round as well, they just help me majorly in the winter.
+ HUMIDIFIER – I’m serious. So so so serious. Get one. Go order it right now. They are all the rage for a reason, not just for shits and giggles, I promise! I just ordered this one that fits perfectly next to my bed and is all white and totally fits the aesthetic vibes going on in our room. It even has a ‘sleep mode’ for those bothered by noise and what not. Humidifiers have helped for 25 whole years. For real. My mom had one in my room ever since I can remember and I have to say, going to college without one for a few months (teenage attitude, didn’t have time for that kind of stuff) sucked the life right out of me. I was SO stuffy and my face was always dry. I swear by these bad boys!
+ SNAIL REPAIR CREAM – I’ve raved about snail cream to you guys before (I use snail eye masks) because it’s that good – you feel like a new person after. Some people say it isn’t worth it (online articles) but some died over it. So, I tried it. I fell in love. I use it all the time now. I put the snail repair cream on at night and I swear my skin is ten times more glowy and vibrant in the morning. Plus, the serum isn’t super ooey gooey, it goes on smooth and you can’t really tell it’s even on? Packed with nutrients, too. BOOM.
+ HOMEMADE FACE MASKS – Homemade face masks are my jam. I’m not fully sure why, but I like them so much better than masks that I buy. They are pretty messy but I feel like they work so much better. I make this one in bulk, literally. I use it as a mask and then I keep the leftovers as a scrub. It’s super refreshing, exfoliating and contains a ton of antibacterial properties. It’s perfect for when your skin starts to get red and dry from the cold wind just casually smashing into your face.
+ OILS – You know I die over a good face oil – they are NOT bad for your skin! I used to think they would clog my pores up for days, but they are the best kept beauty secret I’ve ever learned about. You can use jojoba, rose, grapeseed, even olive oil? Honestly, it’s all good. They remove make-up so much easier than anything I’ve ever used and they also make your skin so.damn.soft. I use them all year but they are definitely a top choice during winter. Read all about my top favorite face oils here.
+ BURT’S BEES ALMOND MILK BEESWAX HAND CREAM – I’ve also had this allllll over insta and snap because the dewy look your hands get is BEYOND. For those of you that hate when your hands are too moisturized and feel kind of wet, this one is perfect for you. The texture is brilliant, it’s not so much a lotion but more of a waxy cream. It gives your hands this shine that you’ll get addicted to. I honestly want to rub it on my chest with a low-v shirt to see if it glows but I haven’t yet. I’ll keep you posted HA.
+ CREAM EVERYWHERE – Literally, though. Keep cream every where you go. Next to your skin, in your living room, bathroom, bedside, purse, whatever and wherever else. (I keep this one in our living room so you literally take some everytime you get up or walk in). After you wash your hands, immediately put lotion on them. The difference is drastic, I swear. Right after you wash your face or shower, put on a serum or oil. Do it quick so you can catch that dryness.
Washing your hands a ton like I do is tough because your skin can look aged really really easily. I’m all about prevention and I just don’t want to deal with yucky hands one day, you know? So lather up babes, happy moisturizing!
Any other tips? x, krissy
