Ever sit down and read a book (or article, magazine, etc.) so good you forget you even started reading?
Do you know what I mean?
You get LOST in it.
It’s one of my favorite things to do but I won’t lie, I have a hard time with it. I read a lot – but there are very few times I get extremely lost in the pages, you know? My mind is so g-damn hard to shut off.
This happened to me to the other day but with everything – let me explain real quick.
I sat on my yoga mat to meditate with my new app (Inscape, do you use it?) and I couldn’t sit still. I couldn’t just relax, so I got up to get more water. Then I changed to go for a run instead. Then I ran for ten minutes and decided I needed to do something about my butt. Squats it was… for like two seconds. Then I was onto the next thing. I got back home and felt more overwhelmed than when I started.
I’ll just say this, my mind was NOT focused.
I couldn’t figure out why, but it really took a toll on me. I felt like I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it. I was literally a lost soul who forgot how to make her very own favorite green juice. Tragic.
With it being 2018 and all – and well, you know… all of the inspiration and motivation going around, setting goals and shit, I figured out why I was so torn between what to do and why to do it.
I had so many things I wanted to accomplish with no focus on them.
Which is a good thing to have so many things to want, honestly. It’s more than good. I have a lot set up for myself and I will never look at that as a bad thing (and you shouldn’t either!) but sometimes, err… more than sometimes, I let all of those things take over so they come in hot and start a tornado in my head. I feel like I needed to start and finish them all… yesterday.
I forget to FOCUS on them.
I forget to get LOST in the book, right?
If I sit down on my yoga mat and STOP thinking about what I’m doing next, or why I shouldn’t be there and I should be somewhere else, I actually focus on the yoga. Okay, and? Well – when I focus on the yoga, I’m knocking off a ‘to-do’ on my accomplishment list: do yoga and meditate more.
Instead, I thought about the next part of my list: bring more content to your readers. Which HOLY SHIT, hold on – that meant I had to get up that very second and go create content. Because well, that’s how my mind works.
You get it, right? I couldn’t f’ing focus. And I need to. We all need to.
If I sit down and focus on my yoga, my entire yoga flow will be better and I’ll gain more insight on why I decided to sit there in the first place. Then, I move on. I sit at my favorite spot to write and I create content. I focus on that thing, at that moment. That way I avoid the cluster fuck that I created for myself which lead to more anxiety and lost-soul feelings.
Focus will bring you insane amounts of energy on that one thing, which will create a badass babe whose just thriving!
SO, HOW DO WE FOCUS?
So glad ya asked.
First, you need to write things down. I know, it’s the same old song and dance every time, but this is what works (for me, at least).
I do it monthly, because I like to review how I’m doing on my goals more than just 6 months or every year. I need to actually see them and write them down in order to know where I’m at. Some people aren’t like this, so take it however you want and do what works for you!
This is how I write it out..
WHAT I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED
WHAT I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH
NUMBER 1 GOAL THIS MONTH
(or do top goals for 6 months, etc.)
HOW TO ACCOMPLISH
[P.S. – CLICK THE IMAGE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR FOCUS PLANNER!]
I’ll break it down quick for you:
You want to write down things you have accomplished because this will HELP you realize how far you’ve already come. Always keep those accomplishments with you, they’re slowly getting you to where you want to be!
Then you want to write down what you want to accomplish. This can be anything and everything. Write down what you want in life, your goals, your dreams, etc. that you are going to focus on. Where do you want to be?
After that, you’re going to pick one main goal for the month. If you are planning on checking in every 6 months, choose a few more goals, and so on. I do monthly, so I choose one MAIN thing I want to focus on that month. One thing that is really going to push me. This doesn’t mean you have to delete every other goal, it’s just teaching you to organize and take it slow. You will get to those ones.
Lastly, how to accomplish is where you will put your best kept secrets on how to get to where you want to be. How will you be a badass this month and push yourself closer to your goals?
FOCUS. FOCUS. FOCUS.
That is when your energy will come in hot and you’ll really thrive.
Get lost in your book, get LOST in whatever you are doing.
MUAH, love you guys!
Can’t WAIT to see where 2018 brings us all, you’re all just amazing – x, k
