Did you see the grocery Insta post on Sunday? If not, I asked you guys if you are using natural makeup products. SPILL THE BEANS, PLEASE. I’m all about your opinions! I’ve been looking VERY much into this and I’m considering slowly switching products I have out for new, natural products. I say slowly because I feel like this could take a while, especially testing new makeup out.
There are some things I don’t want to be putting on my skin, ingredients that just don’t seem too appealing anymore. You know how that goes. But this will just have to be a whole different post because SIGH. I could go on for days.
So, in other news! I’ve decided to give you the scoop on how I’m grocery shopping right now. I’ve gotten to know some of you and the food topic comes up more than most, I feel like many Status Salty readers are similar in this specific category. Which I LOVE!
I actually had some of you reach out about my shopping cart after posting the grocery store Instagram. Which totally got my mind on a mission and thinking about how much I wish we could all go into a huge ass group chat and rave about over priced water and dairy-free fiber-filled snacks while we roam Whole Foods in different locations. Like, hey what did you just buy and why? Has anyone ever gagged while trying to eat zero cheese all-natural ‘Cheez-Its’ or should I get them? Thanks.
I think I’m onto something. GROCERY SHOPPING STATUS SALTY GROUP CHAT. Snap a pic and send it over, we will let you know. WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED. I mean how many times do you go to the grocery store and feel lost, extremely overwhelmed or panicky about the decision of purchasing a bag of popcorn with some sort of kale powder sprinkled all over it? Insert girl raising her hand emoji here.
Since I haven’t invented my new group yet, I video tape myself roaming Whole Foods while I talk into my camera and get stared at (not in a good way) instead. I’m doing an “exactly what I ate” video (coming next week!) so the Whole Foods camera session needed to be done. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
I really want to bring you along and get your tips too, so for now I’m going to spill the dirty deets on my grocery list lately. And as always, I want to know yours!
MY CURRENT GROCERY SHOPPING LIST:
RAW VEGGIES. This is a must and it is always top on my list. I pick up a bunch of raw vegetables that I will snack on throughout the week – without cooking them! I like carrots, broccoli and celery the best. I will dip them in hummus (which by the way, be careful of the brand! – I’ll get to this) or snack on them alone when I need something to munch on or throw over my salad.
FRUIT. I always buy some sort of fruit, but I usually mix and mingle with this. I don’t buy the same fruit every week. I like to add variety, spice things up! This week I bought blueberries and clementines – I need ALL the antioxidants and vitamin C right now. In the summer I buy a lot of grapefruit and watermelon.
AVOCADOS. I always, always, always pick up avocados at the store. If I get too many and they are about to brown, I slice them up and put them in the freezer for my smoothies. I eat half of an avocado daily, usually. I like to do what Kourtney Kardashian does and make a morning pick me up with an avocado and almond milk smoothie, except a add cinnamon and vanilla extract because it is pretty hard to get down with no flavoring. SORRY KOURT STILL LOVE YOU.
SPINACH. This is also something I buy weekly because I add it to smoothies daily or make a salad with it. Sometimes I’ll even toss it on my eggs in the morning, so it’s good to have around for random meals, and you can get frozen spinach if you feel like you’re throwing it out all the time! I add frozen spinach to my smoothies.
ALMOND MILK. I add this to my smoothies daily, so it’s always on my list!
LEMONS. YES! I keep them handy for my waters and salads. Buying them weekly helps me not waste them and throw a million out (I’m bad at that).
HUMMUS. I like to buy hummus weekly to have for my raw veggies, but the ingredients can be iffy! I found a brand I love (HOPE HUMMUS) at Whole Foods. I usually check for canola oil, which a lot of hummus brands have in them.
LA CROIX WATERS. I pick some of these up to keep my cravings down. It’s just something to spice up the typical water all day long, and I normally don’t love sparkling water. These ones aren’t too flavorful though, where you feel like they’re almost too sweet. La Croix just give you something simple to sip on. They’re great to have in your fridge for some cocktails, too. I like to try different flavors so I’ll buy a small pack when I go.
NATURAL ALMOND BUTTER. I make sure to check that my almond butter doesn’t have anything in it except almonds and maybe sometimes a little sea salt, but I prefer just the almonds. I do choose almond butter over peanut butter now just because of looking into how it is (possibly) better for you. I also just love the taste – especially in my smoothies!
LARA BARS. Did you get the scoop on my new snack obsession yesterday? If not, go check it out. These things are THE BEST, super quick and easy to have in your bag or on-the-go, minimal ingredients, natural and VERY tasty. BA and I buy them weekly because we are that obsessed. We left Whole Foods on Sunday with a cart full of them.
JULIAN PALEO BREAD. I actually buy this on Amazon but it still counts as something on my list, right? And I won’t lie to you, it isn’t my favorite tasting bread ever, but it definitely gets the job done in the good-for-you department. I’m trying to reduce my grain intake and that is VERY hard when you love a piece of toast. So I use this bread with avocado or almond butter for a quick snack or breakfast.
DARK CHOCOLATE. Again, I’m very picky on my nutrition labels here. We have containers filled with dark chocolate because, let’s just be honest, you need a bite of something sweet and chocolatey here and there. I would rather go SIMPLE and just eat a piece of dark chocolate rather than make these healthy desserts that are filled with more than I need, you know? I do look at my ingredients, because even when you walk through Whole Foods you’ll see a lot of added ingredients in some of the chocolate bars. I also keep a bag of cacao nibs handy in my kitchen for a sweet snack – especially over some popcorn YUP, YUM. Just keep it simple and check the labels!
WHAT’S ON YOUR LIST?
Let me know, let me know!
About to go make my avocado smoothie thanks to Kourtney K.
