I’ve gotten so many questions about my hair, mostly because I’m a true fan of going blonde then back to brown the repeat five million times. I am VERY indecisive (thank you to my hair dresser who puts up with my shit). Very, very indecisive and also very, very particular. I can’t just pick a Pinterest picture and want that exact thing. I have to explain, probably too much, about why I like it but what I want different. I mean, not everyone has the same face, you know?
I even texted my hair dresser last Thursday morning before my appointment with a picture from Pinterest and said “do I like this hair or do I like her makeup and extensions more?” You know? I couldn’t decide if I actually wanted that color because there was SO much more going on.
WHICH IS GREAT. The girl was gorg. It was all gorg. It was just hard to tell what I liked the most.
Ok so that being said – this post is VERY particular to my hair story and what I like to use. I think that a little love can go a loooong way with hair.
I usually go blonde in the summer (more here) because it’s summer and the bleached ends just do something to me. So… beachy, right? I just love the whole vibe. I go back to some sort of brunette in the fall, normally. Sometimes I keep some blonde in there, sometimes I tell her to dye the shit out of my head and make me pure brunette again. It all depends on the day.
I have cut my hair short, kept it long, worn extensions, alllll of that. I’m a fan of it. I think change is good and you don’t need to be going through a break-up (we’ve all been there!) just to change your hair, trust me. I mean… the most intense hair appointment a girl can have is when her heart is broken and her mind is… halfway gone.
MY HAIR RECOMMENDATIONs :
+ Change it up! Keep things spicy and alive, if you want to cut it then cut it – it always grows back!
+ Extensions? Yes. I am a fan. I like the clip-in ones though. I try to keep my hair as healthy as possible – so I only were them when needed and I don’t get extensions that stay in my hair.
+ SNIP-SNIP! Get comfortable with scissors (says the girl who literally never wants a trim… ever). But it’s good to get comfortable snipping those dead ends off – they make a huge difference in how fresh and full your hair looks.
+ Don’t wash it a lot. If you know me, you know I’m not a huge fan of washing my hair. I would rather lather coconut oil on every piece then wash my hair. For some reason, it doesn’t work well when it’s clean (gross, right?). If I want it curled or messed up a little, it HAS to be a few days past a wash.
+ I (personally) don’t brush it a lot. I’ve heard brushing your hair isn’t the best for it, but I actually don’t brush it often because I look like a lion after. I find it better to just run my fingers through it quick and fix it up then ever take a brush to it. I only use a brush when it’s wet!
+ You won’t kill it by keeping up with the color (whatever you choose) if you take care of it. I am at my hair dresser every 6 weeks and I use products to keep my hair in line. I use protective shampoos like ogx and serums (ogx as well). Don’t wash it every day so the color lasts longer – then you won’t feel washed out.
I love so many styles. Some days my hair is beach waved out, some days it has subtle vertical curls, other days it is straight as anything. A long pony, low bun, high top knot? I’m all in. Slick it back and let the pony talk, girl! Mixing it up is totally my thing. Once you start to do it more you’ll love all the different styles – find what works for you!
What are your hair tips? Please do tell.
