I feel like this is just a mandatory winter post on Status Salty.
We are really, really into good-for-you things over here. And by we, I mean you and me.
You saw the magic elixir, I’m guessing? Since I’ve been raving about it on Snap and Insta. Can you even blame me? It tastes good, which is hard to come by with good-for-you drinks, and it is.. ready?.. SO GOOD FOR YOU.
I’m all about preventing anything. Preventing sun damage, skin aging, colds, flus, etc., etc., etc. I have this weird anxiety about prevention. If I’m not doing something to help myself I get super anxious. I was telling a patient at work the other day – if you get your mind right you’re going to feel better overall, you know? Which is why I like to do things to help my future self so my mind is in a good place.
Quick example: I take ACV every morning. It’s a huge go-to for me for so many reasons. A main reason being that it helps your gut health. Gut health overall helps your immune system MAJORLY. So when any kind of sickness is heading my way, I feel like I’ve already helped it out by taking ACV every morning.
I’m not saying you will never get sick if you down cringe-worthy apple cider vinegar the second you wake up, so don’t hold me accountable for that. But, in my mind, I’m preventing anything major and helping it out before it gets to me. Make sense?
Rambling, I know.
Anyway, I woke up with a cold the other morning. You know what that means! Psycho mode. I want to catch it fast. Like, really fast. I don’t wait around, I get on that bad boy ASAP.
I mean who wants a shitty cold to last long? No one.
So here we are, talking about colds and how to get rid of the g-damn things. Or help them leave your body quicker. Anything, really, just to stop the coughing the second you put your head on your pillow. Anything.
Let’s do it..
WHAT I’M DOING THE SECOND I FEEL A COLD COMING ON:
WATER. My remedy for almost anything: more water. Fluids, fluids, fluids. ALWAYS! I’m a huge advocate for H2O. Honestly, you could tell me you had a bad day and I’d be like but did you drink enough water? So of course, when you wake up sniffly or coughing – get that water into your system all.day.long. Drink more than usual. Drink a lot.
ELDERBERRY SYRUP. This is an ingredient in my magic elixir because it’s so.good.for.you. Especially during the winter. Some people take it daily, I take it when I feel something coming on or if I was around people who have a cold. It tastes good, which is huge. It’s almost like adult cough syrup that doesn’t make you gag? The benefits are in my elixir post. A really good immune booster and supposably a great (and easy) way to minimize your colds.
ZARBEE’S DRINK MIX. I really like these and I feel like if you catch your cold early they help a ton. I add them to a glass of tea or water and I put some extra honey in the drink as well. They have so many vitamins to help boost your immune system and really help that cold out.
SOVEREIGN SILVER. Ok, have you heard of this? It’s a serious game changer when you start to feel sick. I have used it before on a sore throat and for an ear ache – the next day they both felt so much better. If I am getting ready to travel or wake up feeling a cold coming on, I add some drops of this to my smoothie or water. (Read the bottle, don’t add too much).
HUMIDIFIER. Duh! You guys who follow on Snap know that I use this every night – prevention prevention! It also helps with my allergies and skin, I call it my beauty sleep machine! When I feel like I’m getting a cold, I put it on HIGH and let it go all day long while I’m home. (I shut it off when I leave because that makes me anxious LOL) but if I’m there, it’s on. This humidifier is insanely good, too. I’ve had some dull ones, you know? This one is STRONG.
GREEN JUICE. I’m typically drinking a green juice daily, but when I start to feel sick cold-wise or just exhausted, I’m drinking green juices even more. I really can’t express how much I believe in natural ways of vitamins and minerals. I mean the energy green juices give you is insane. Trust me. I’ve actually stopped drinking coffee so much and feel more energized by juices. The STATUS SALTY DETOX GUIDE has my favorite green juice recipes plus my favorite juicer.
What am I missing, are you guys doing anything major to help a cold out?
